IP Ratings explained
IP Rating is a system by which electrical
products can be classified for suitability for use in proximity to moisture,
water or fluids.
The IP (Ingress Protection) standard
This describes
a uniform system for classifying the degrees of protection provided by the
enclosures of electrical equipment.
An example of an IP Rating
The
light pictured to the left has an IP Rating of 44 which means:
4:
Protected against solid objects greater than 1mm
4:
Protected against water sprayed from any direction - limited ingress
permitted
